At the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is small but ecologically rich: tree-climbing lions, vast flocks of flamingos and a shimmering alkaline lake. Groundwater forests, acacia woodlands and grasslands host elephants, giraffes, hippos and primates, ideal for photography, birdwatching and short game drives.
Located in northern Tanzania, the Serengeti is one of the most famous wildlife sanctuaries in the world. Its sweeping grasslands host the legendary Great Migration, where over two million wildebeest, zebras and gazelles cross the plains and rivers in search of greener pastures. About 120 km southwest of Arusha, Tarangire is famed for vast elephant herds and baobab trees. In the dry season the Tarangire River is a lifeline for wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, lions and leopards. A peaceful, less crowded safari in 2,850 km² and a paradise for birdwatchers.
